That's actually where I started, but I had assorted problems with the 
capture card, gave up on it and decided to buy the DVD-recorder as an 
alternative. Maybe that was a bad idea. I'll revisit the capture card, 
which is one of those Kworld USB things (The PC's a laptop). Alegedly 
Linux supports it, but I haven't yet had it working, allegedly it recors 
from s-video, but I get only monochrome, I haven't yet found a program 
that can understand the video that it's tacky Windoze application 
records, thoug I'll try that again. The videos are all so old, that 
remodulating and recording that way would cause little extra 
degredation.
I think I'll try the direct method again.
All the videos could be cut into segments as they're all instructional 
(bees and beekeeping) and it's good to have indices to the relevant bits 
for use when teaching. That probably means that the disc-space 
requirements can be managed. I have a couple of 15G partitions I can 
free up and also a WD-Passport with about 100G left, though I'm not sure 
whether a USB disc would be fast enough. Nice little package though!
