You can't mount LVM physical volumes as filesystems; they are part
of volume groups and volume groups contain logical volumes. It's
the logical volumes that you mount. You probably want to read up on
the basics of LVM in the LVM2 HOWTO.

What does "lvdisplay" as root say, from the live cd?
