I have been using this Toshiba laptop for a few years. I can't fault
it. However, if I was looking to replace it, I would definitely look
out for a higher resolution screen. Don't just look at the size. 15"
does not tell you what resolution it will achieve. The more pixels
the better.
Secondly, I would make sure that it has a dedicated graphics card,
probably NVIDIA. I know that the drivers are not open but they do
work, for me at least.
In the time I have had this laptop, I have upgraded the RAM 256Mb ->
1Gb and I have also replaced the HD. Both operations went without a
hitch, and this laptop still has plenty of life in it due to the
upgrades.
As others have said, I would rather a branded machine. My experience
with Toshiba means I will recommend them in a hart beat, just make
sure that it is made in Japan as some Toshiba's are made in China,
and, I believe, are not as good.
