I don't know what functionality is missing from widowmaker that I'd
gain by using kde/gnome other than graphical tools to do things that
are just as easily done from the command line.

I've actually been using kde for the past few weeks on the Sidux box
and don't think it offers any real benefit over widowmaker in terms
of usability.

OK, so digikam made it easy to sort images, rename them etc but I can
use mmv now I've had a little help from my friends and
ImageMagick does the rest.

I guess I am a bit out of line with conventional thinking about
GUI's and don't want every app to have the same look and feel as
the next. I happen to think the interface should reflect what the
app is used for. So a browser interface shouldn't necessarily be
identical or even similar to a word processor or a spreadsheet.
