Yup! you will get a warning that you will need to reboot immediately
after installing the kernel. I think it may be due to Debian using
kernel meta packages which causes the apparent error as the meta
package has the same name each time but the content of the package
is different - I know what I mean but cannot explain it very
well ;-)

I do as Adam suggests and agree to installing the new kernel but
then reboot once the upgrade has completed. My uptime suffers but
that is the only disadvantage.

This is, IMHO, the sort of thing that happens with these gui updater
thingies that you get with KDE/Gnome and I always use command line
version of aptitude to update/upgrade my system
