No ideas yet... I started dabbling with bridges for the first time
yesterday (for the purposes of networking into a VirtualBox VM), and had
the same experience: the bridge worked fine (I could ssh into and out of
the VM), but normal networking for the host was totally messed up. Even
after taking the bridge away, I had to reboot to get back on the internet.
