Hummm,

I have (so far) tended to use an IDE drive at /dev/hda for system and grub.

I did boot from SATA on our server in Aberdeen (while I was benchmarking it)
and had great fun trying to install grub on anything that wasn't /dev/hda!!
When I finally got it installed on /dev/sda, I had the same BIOS trouble.

If you're adding a SATA drive to store data (ie to use as /home or something)
then you shouldn't have an issue.

Cheers,

Tim B.
