They don't implement VT yet, though, which is the important bit in
this case.

The earlier ones didn't implement the CMOV instruction, either,
which caused problems with things that assumed that it was a required
part of the i686 instruction set (it's not -- it's an optional part of
the spec). They're fully x86-compatible, it's just that you have to be
careful about which ISA specifications and options you're talking
about.
