If you want to create DVDs that a standard TV-attached DVD player can
play, DeVeDe makes it easy. See
http://www.rastersoft.com/programas/devede.html. Debian and Ubuntu have
packages available, but the website has a newer version that allows you
to add simple menus. I've used it a couple of time to put film trailers
onto a DVD -- all the default settings seem to Just Work(tm). It can
deal with various input formats such as .avi, .mov, .flv etc.
