The batteries in my previous camera (Olympus C-990 ZOOM) didn't last
any time at all. It didn't have a usb interface so I _had_ to use a
card reader to copy pics off the card.

The fuji is much more economical with batteries and I might even
try using rechargeables with it.

I have a 10 uniross 1300 and 8 uniross 2500 that discharged in no
time at all in the Olympus when it wasn't even being used. The
charger is a 'uniross sprint' used according to their instructions

Like James I doubt I'll ever fill the 1Gb xd card I have in one
session even at high res. If we ever get to go on holiday* again I'd
probably take the laptop and copy pictures off the camera onto that
each day.

*it certainly won't be a photo shoot trip to somewhere like
madagascar. Exotic places these days is a day trip to Bristol.
