I've been trying to get Darkice[1] to work lately, with little
success. I've got it to stream data to an Icecast2 server successfully
-- that bit isn't a problem. The main problem is that the data it's
streaming is all zeroes.

On closer investigation, I can't seem to capture the data that's
being sent to the audio card. I've tried just using arecord, but
that's recording a whole load of zeros, too.

My understanding is that I should be able to capture whatever's
being sent to an ALSA output, but I can't see how to do it. I've even
tried setting up a .asoundrc to do it, but still no change.

I'm using amarok to play the audio, darkice to (try to) capture
it. The hardware is "Intel HD Audio" on a Dell Latitude. The .asound
file I've tried using is this:

pcm.moo {
    type copy
    slave {
        pcm "hw:0,0"
    }
}

All to no avail. Has anyone got this working? Does anyone have any
suggestions?

Hugo.

PS. I've tried Jack, too, but it gives loads of xruns and clicks, even
without trying to run data through it, and I really don't feel like
running an -rt kernel on this machine just for this.
