Apologies for cross-posting but I just wanted to spread the word on what
looks like a good offer for anyone in the market for an ultra-portable
device.
My son Sam has been after a UMPC for a while now and has looked at all
of the various options - the MSI Wind, Acer One, EeePC, etc.
Anyway, until today he hadn't actually used one so we dropped into
Currys in Bournemouth to take a peek at the Acer One* on display. He
liked it and as the price was only £199 we bought it there and then, and
I have to say that I am quite impressed with it.
He needs it for email, browsing, chat and office applications, and since
he has a desktop he shares with his brother plus extra storage on our
file server, the relatively low spec of this machine does not bother him
at all. It took minutes to connect it to the wireless network at home,
and not much longer to configure email and printing.
You may be able to pick them up cheaper, but I doubt it very much on the
high street.
My only complaints about it relate to the touchpad and button
arrangement which are a little fiddly, plus the lack of a neoprene
sleeve. Having bought one off ebay for £3.60 inc. postage you have to
wonder why a company like Acer can't include one in the package.
