I could quite happily talk and demo for at least an hour on this subject.
There are several weighty tomes on the issue of Colour Management and many people make a living doing just nothing but Colour Management.
That said, the tools etc available for Linux are pretty well non existent.
To profile a Screen, Projector or Printer you need to have a device that reades the light coming out of the screen or projector or the reflected light from a test print. Examples of these are

Color Munki
Spyder 2 Pro

I think there are plenty of other things related to Digital Photography that could be covered in an hour or so that may be more beneficial to LUG Members.

For example,
Setting up your Camera.
Raw or Jpeg
Exposure & White Balance.
