I guess that quite a few people may have played with stand-alone
database apps in the past (in my case, lotus approach and access) but
whilst we could plan tables and relationships, would not know how to go
further with say mysql (and php).

DB access in PHP is pretty simple really - the usual arguments are over
style and portability.

Would something like a simple instroduction to Smarty be a better bet?

Thanks for the quick reply, Vic.

I currently have a couple of open source apps running on php / mysql at
home and online and that won't be changing, hence wanting to know
more.  Frankly I know nothing about Smarty so can't comment.  What I
don't know are the pretty simple things about PHP and wanted to
kick-start the learning.  Maybe consecutive talks?

Vic.

Cheers
