Subject: [Hampshire] Over Heating

I am running mepis 8 RC2 (Debian Lenny base) on a Acer Travelmate 4600

I had the CPU frequency set to dynamic so that when the laptop was idling it
dropped to 800mhz (its a 1.6ghz Pentium M) but when it drops to 800mhz the
temperature would go through the roof.

After a while with the cpu frequency set to 1.6ghz the temperature still
climbs up

The laptop only has one fan which does work, I have cleaned out the fan and
the small heat sink, the laptop normally sits on my desk so it is getting the
minimal airflow through it. When running Windows XP there is no overheating
problem.

I guess I am looking for the setting that turns the fan on and off which I
guess is related to ACPI and Thermal

I have file called trip points in /proc/acpi/thermal_zone which has the
following:

critical (S5): 97C
passive: 93C : tcl2 tc2=3 tsp=40 devices=cpu0

Do I change these and if so to what??

Tim
