Language is dynamic with all words being made up at some point, after
all. Many change their meaning over the decades and centuries, evolve
from other languages (or slang), and eventually slip away through
obsolescence.
And, I'm guessing pretty much everyone reading 'performant' in this
context knows what it means, so it serves a purpose.
