I took you at your word, Steve. I am 25% through installing 10.04 from a CD
supplied by Canonical. (I thought that I should stop relying on CDs burnt by
me

It has given up at:
<quote>
The installer encountered an error copying files to the hard disk:

[Errno] input/output error

This is often due to a faulty CD/DVD disk or drive, or a faulty hard disk. It
may help to clean the CD/DVD, to burn the CD/DVD at a slower speed, to clean
the CD/DVD drive lens (cleaning kits are often available from economics
suppliers),to check whether the hard disk is old and in need of replacement,
or to move the system to a cooler environment.

I did succeed a few weeks ago in installing the Trinity version of Kubuntu
10.04 on this computer, but as I said, I have had constant problems with
10.04 on several computers. :-(

The intention at the moment is to install Lucid and Virtual Box and then
install Hardy inside VB. But I may rethink! I can't even go back to square
one and check the CD because when I load the CD it immediately goes back to
trying to install!

I may give up on Lucid and install Maverick - always assuming that I can! -
and then install VB and Hardy on that.
