Conference News and Notes:

2011 International CES January 6-9

In January, Apress exhibited at the world’s largest consumer
electronics show, CES, in Las Vegas, NV. More than 2,700 global
technology companies energized attendees with the launch of more
than 80 tablets, wireless 4G LTE, connected TV technologies,
smart appliances, and electric vehicles. The 2011 CES set several
records, including 30,000 international attendees, and 22 top
CEOs participating in keynotes, including Microsoft's Steve
Ballmer, Verizon’s Ivan Seidenberg, Audi's Rupert Stadler,
Samsung's Boo-Keun Yoon, Ford's Alan Mulally, Netflix's Reed
Hastings, Cisco's John Chambers, Xerox's Ursula Burns, and GE's
Jeffrey Immelt. "This global technology gathering featured more
innovation, more news, more social media buzz, and more
international attendance than any other show in CES history,"
said Gary Shapiro, CEA’s president and CEO. Apress had its latest
consumer lines of books on display in both print and electronic
formats for the iPad, Kindle, and Nook reading devices. The
International CES will return to Las Vegas next January 10-13,
2012.

CodeMash January 12-14

CodeMash 2011, the only conference to take over 900 programmers
on an African safari, was held January 12-14 at the Kalahari
Resort, an indoor water park in Sandusky, Ohio. Covering an array
of technologies—including .NET, Java, C#, Ruby, PHP, and
Smartphone development—CodeMash’s popularity continues to grow
with more developers coming from farther distances with diverse
coding backgrounds.

The conference offered the unique mix of high-quality sessions
and a chance for programmers to don flip-flops during the bitter
Ohio winter. Keynote speeches were presented by Chad Fowler, Josh
Holmes, and Scott Chacon, Apress author and GitHub master. Most
of the buzz centered on Ruby, Android, Web Apps, and .NET., while
Agile and CouchDB also piqued the attendees’ interest. A number
of Apress authors are loyal “CodeMashers,” including Jim Weaver,
who presented on the JavaFX Platform, joined by Jeff Brown, Chris
Judd, Josh Smith, and Jason Gilmore, who is also the co-founder
of the conference.

SharePoint Technology Conference (SPTechCon) February 7-9

Apress is exhibiting at the 2011 SharePoint Technology Conference
in San Francisco, CA February 8-9. SPTechCon, the largest

SharePoint, including engineers who helped create SharePoint and
MVPs who are unparalleled experts in the technology, will be on
hand to present at this exciting three-day conference.

If you are attending the show, stop by Booth #6 to check out the
latest Apress SharePoint books, eBooks, and much more. See you
there!
