Hi,

I can now confirm the networking arrangements for these next two meetings at
Southampton University. Chris can connect wired computers to the campus
network by bridging to the wireless network - or that is the plan!

Here is what Chris will try to provide:
- A single 54Mbps link to the University internet connection will be
available.
- A local Ubuntu (and possibly Fedora) mirror will be available as
mirror.hantslug.soton.ac.uk.
     - Other distributions can be requested for this mirror and I will
do my best to get them on there, but I'm somewhat limited to how many
gigabytes the Uni will let me get away with.
- Within the HantsLUG network inside Seminar Room 1, we will have 10/100
Mbps connectivity only (the LUG will bring it's switches and such).

Here's the guidelines we need everyone coming to stick to:
- If you need a lot of bandwidth (several gigabytes plus) for something,
contact me soon so I can get a local mirror. I don't want to have to
pipe several hundred gig through the wifi.....
- No bittorrent of any kind (even if it's legal Ubuntu ISOs.....). If
you have a torrent client that runs at start up, please turn it off
before you arrive at the meeting, and I'll be keeping an eye on this
over the day....
- Please be sensible - we all know what sensible means, I hope. I don't
want to have to get into any amount of trouble over anything, so if it's
somewhat dubious, please don't do it, at least not without asking me first.

If you wish to use your device on the network, please make sure you
register its MAC address at http://hantslug.cmalton.me.uk/dhcp.php
If you don't register the MAC address, then it simply won't work.
If you need some help getting this registered then please come and find
Chris on the day - he be able to register the MAC for you.

Unfortunately, all of the above is necessary to allow Chris to at least get
close to complying with the University policies..... (and not upset them
with bandwidth usage).

As in the past if you can send your name to our host in advance so there
shouldn't be any problems with security that would be great. Our host is Chris
Malton and his email address is chrism <at> cmalton <dot> me <dot> uk

I look forward to seeing everyone again and for a good meeting.
