Meetings in the past have been held in Basingstoke, Southampton
University, IBM Hursley, and a village hall (can't remember
exactly where), often because someone could get us in for free.
There is no reason that the location could not be paid for as the
society has a bank account with some money in and people don't
mind paying a few quid to cover the cost of a room.
Some meeting have been joint between us and other groups, so
doing the same again is also a valid option.
Originally a decent network connection with WiFi was essential so
people could download and do stuff, but some meeting have been
without network and also proved quite successful.
I've been busy of late but would be happy to go to more meetings
and give presentations, but as a former chairman of the LUG I
would caution that getting a free venue with network and a speaker
can be a challenge.
I live in Overton (part way between Basingstoke and Andover) and
we have nice village halls, but we'd have to pay for them to use
them...
My 2p...

The test of the goodness of a thing is its fitness for use. If it
fails on this first test, no amount of ornamentation or finish will
make it any better, it will only make it more expensive and foolish.
