I don't think you can do this easily with the packages - in the same
way that you can't have both xterm v1.2 and v1.3 installed at the same
time. Granted, some package maintainers do something like this:

xterm (depends on xterm1.3)
xterm1.2
xterm1.3

So that you can have both, however often you find that for example
/usr/lib/firefox in your example would produce clashes.

I have tried the firefox v3 beta (and on some website it dropped load
time down from 6secs to 1 sec so I personally can't wait!). Before
anyone suggest, no it's not due to plugins slowing it down - it is due
to DOM model speedups and another big speedup they did which escapes
me ATM.
