I'm actually using Ethernet over Power[1] for doing this. Plug ethernet
cable into adapter which plugs into a downstairs power socket, plug
other adapter into power socket upstairs and hang a hub off that.
No messing around with wireless. It's not as fast as a real network,
but it's faster than broadband so it's fine for general internet access.
