One of the joys of using a modern distro is that it should do all this
automatically for you. I used to edit lilo.conf on a regular basis and
later menu.lst. However I'm happy that my distro sets things like
dual-boot up for me - although I've only used it on a couple of boxes at
work.

There comes a point when you might ask yourself - if it's this much work
are you using the wrong tools?
