Subject: [Hampshire] Open Source Database applications
I have a database application for delivering fresh food which started
life about 20 years ago and was written in Foxpro. Although Foxpro still
is a good development environment it was bought many years ago by
Microsoft, not reason enough to rewrite the app but irritation has been
growing and it is time to seriously think about rewriting the
application to run cross platform.

Can anybody suggest replacement technologies?

Foxpro uses shared file for its database and a move to client server is
a must. Also it is pretty heavy on the use of GUI forms and reports and
so easy form and report creation would be nice. It should be lightweight
in use of resources. The existing application which allows people to
enter/alter orders and print them normally runs on old PC's too feeble
to do any thing else and so must run on all versions of windows. The
development will of course be done on Linux.

Thanks

Roger
