Recently I used (Apache + PHP + MySQL(cli & phpMyAdmin - XAMPP)) wrote and
designed the SQL in Linux using vim, Dia, Ooo.
For the front end I used a form maker - PHPMaker in a virtual MS XP
environment.
This made for a *very* fast and cheap db development environment, see;
