It might be lost space. Filesystems generally assign space to files
in blocks (depends on the filesystem type and size of the disc), so
a 17 byte file might actually take up 1k on disc. Konqueror is
probably only counting the 17bytes, but the freespace is counting
the whole 1k.

btw, Konqueror has a 'file size view', which displays the relative
sizes of all your folders, so you can see exactly where the space is
being used. There's also a KDE utility called filelight which does
much the same, but prettier.
