Hi Tim,
Have you been through the smbpasswd -a usernames dance for each user?

Or is it that the "server" is not showing under Windows dodgy networking
neighborhood?
XP can be /VERY/ slow at finding new stuff and is even more of a pain if
stuff changes ater its been noticed as it seems to cache stuff it may
have seen at some breif period
Also knock off any firewalls on the XP machines
if its still not showing there - are you sure nmbd daemon is running as
well as smbd?

(ps ax | grep nmbd or top are my faves :-)

if not then both smbd -D and nmbd -D will need (re)starting

Also maybe the permissions on the shared drive is set a bit agressive?
