I have finally got the problem solved. Thanks to Jack Knight for putting
his finger on the problem.
The Netgear DG634 ADSL Modem router was not forwarding the packets
through the firewall correctly on the inward path even though the
firewall rule said otherwise.
I upgraded the firmware and suddenly, it burst into life.
If you have a DG634 V3 ADSL Modem Router (with or without Wireless) I
would recommend that you download the latest firmware and upgrade it.
