I thought that DOS had both date and time commands, but it may vary on
the version of DOS you are using, and I don't have a handy DOS/Windows
box on which to check. There may have been an issue with getting the
command to simply show the time/date as opposed to setting it...

OK, a quick Google shows up a page [1] that lists DOS commands and
includes bot DATE [2] and TIME [3] with the necessary syntax. Both look
to have been around since DOS 5 and still exist in XP, although it
doesn't state whether they get installed by default and it is such a
long time since I installed DOS that I can't remember how much control
you had. I seem to remember getting quite a bit of control under DR-DOS
as owned by Digital Research, Caldera and Novell at different times, but
that even managed task switching and built in TCP/IP so that may not be
typical :)

Oh, and as a last suggestion that I have just remembered. When I used to
do quite a bit of batch processing in NT 4 I think I used a command from
the Resource Kit called NOW [4]. Back then I think the Resource Kit cost
extra, but it looks as though it is a free download now. I also used the
Resource Kit to install commands as services using INSTSRV.EXE, but
that's a whole different issue, and I think in the early days of VNC.
