Hi,

I have a SATA drive I boot from and use the splash image without
problem.

my /boot partition is /dev/sda3 so I have :-

splashimage=(hd0,2)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
and
root (hd0,2)

In this the (hd0,2) means hd0 = /dev/sda and the 2 means partition 3.

So if your device is /dev/sdc (hd2) sounds right.

HTH.

Tom.
