It doesn't have it's own OS, it's essentially an I/O device connected to
your Linux box through a Bluetooth-style dongle (in the shape of a fish
:-) It operates on the same band as Wi-Fi/bluetooth, but I'm not sure
exactly what protocols it uses.
You can command it through a Python shell (called tuxsh) or write python
scripts to control it. It also comes with various pre-written "gadgets"
that check your email, tell you the weather, etc.
