Next week I'm getting a PC from Dell. I started a thread earlier about
trying to claim money back for the pre-installed vista but have since
changed my mind...I'd like to keep an image of the pre-loaded vista
install and use it via virtualbox.
I'm not sure if that will work, but it might do..
The problem is that the hard disk is 500GB, that's a pretty big image
and I just don't have any drives near big enough to store that on. What
I'd like to do is just get the good bits from the hard disk into a
workable image. Perhaps DDing the MBR, mounting the NTFS partition and
putting it all together somehow?
The reasons I'd like to hold on to vista are two-fold. Firstly it'd save
the hastle of trying to get money back from Dell. Secondly I'd like to
see what Vista is like and test things on it etc. I think it's always
good to keep a level playing field (to a degree!)
Thanks in advance,
John.
