Here's the latest.
First - I tried ensuring the IP range covered 192.168.1.77. BUT the netgear
wouldn't let me set that asthe top end of the range. It seems it balks at
anything above 192.168.0.255!
Then I tried a direct RJ45 connection to the desktop WinXP box, and
attempted to connect through Firefox - nothing! Then I tried ping, which
again failed.
I suspect that the netgear isn't accepting the slug connection because it is
outside of the IP range, which cannot be extended to cover it.
It looks like I will have to try using Ubuntu to connect direct, an alter
the IP addy to be in range.
