Not necessarily. You can run in routed mode, and tell the host to
route between all of the relevant interfaces. It's not ideal, of
course, but it will work. :)

At what point does the network stop working? Are you doing this at
the console of the host, or over an ssh connection? If the latter,
it's probably not going to work (or will need to be scripted), as part
of the process will stop the network connection from working
temporarily.
