If you need photographic quality then yes, an inkjet is probably what you
need. However, we just needed the occasional colour page printed, and
we're pretty happy with a Konica/Minolta Magicolor 2450 laser with
duplexer. It prints photos OK, but not to the same quality as a decent
inkjet photo printer.
