RPM in Gentoo, that's a bit like putting diesel in your Ferrari :)

First off I should say that I stopped using Adaptec probably a decade
ago due to their poor to non-existent unix support. If you run anything
other than as shipped by the big manufacturer virgin systems Adaptec
don't want to know.

All our systems that use RAID use software RAID these days, he says
looking at the 4 drive RAID5 in his work box.

I'd suggest picking the RPM apart by hand especially if you just want
to extract a few CLI tools. Ignore the dependancies until you hit
them at runtime (I suspect most of the silly requirements are for the
GUI tools anyway).

Start with "rpm2targz" to strip the RPM header, unpack the .targz
somewhere safe and have a rummage for the binaries you want.

Google threw up what looks like a reasonable discussion of this
process to install on non-supported systems.
