Once you've sortd out permissions (see other posts), you then need to
tell iceweasel where your profile is. That is the oddly-named
directory, usually in .mozilla/firefox. Mine, for example, is
k66iugjc.default.

Just run "iceweasel -profilemanager" from the command line - it comes up
with a dialogue to manage profiles. Select "Create Profile", "Next",
then "Choose Folder" and select the oddly-named directory that you have
copied across. Note that iceweasel may have created its own such
directory. OK the selection, and enter a name in the "profile name"
field. Click "Finish" to return to the original dialogue. Click on the
newly-created profile to highlight it, and make sure that the "Don't ask
at startup" box is checked. Hit exit and then restart firefox/iceweasel
normally.
