Hi,

It's worth noting that there are 2 classic variants of H.264: H264 part 2 and part 10. Part 2 is an HD video conferencing codec and part 10 is the codec used for modern HDTV. Make sure what you get does part 10.

AVC is another variant and is used in a number of memory card and maybe some disc HD camcorders.

I don't have a modern media player but when I had a Pinnacle Showcenter I was very pleased with it (until a Windows update borked the MSSQL that its server relied on and I never managed to resurrect it) There were oss server solutions for it but not enough tuits. I would hope their newer ones did 264.
