i do realise that, vic... i did get an O level in english language and literature :-)
the point i was attempting to convey was that if *G*CSEs are the equivalent to CSEs, then a top grade *G*CSE is equivalent to a mid range O level.
i wouldn't know about *G*CSEs as they brought those new fangled things in *after* i left school.
