For comparison, I have, with the FF that I restarted less than an hour ago:
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
20420 victor 20 0 794m 293m 31m S 5 16.7 10:05.94 firefox
and immediately after restarting a second ago (after disabling FireBug)
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
20420 victor 20 0 567m 209m 26m S 24 11.9 10:54.43 firefox
(Interesting btw: 'Restart Firefox' from the AddOns dialogue does not
kill the running FF)
and in the time taken to write this message it has gone up to
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
20420 victor 20 0 627m 218m 26m S 4 12.5 11:35.99 firefox
Definitely something amiss. I have set up a top -b command running and
will keep an eye on it as I do stuff in the next day or two.
