?!

I'd have to say that dvd:rip is amongst the worst piece of software
that I've ever used. "super easy" is not a phrase I'd use to describe
it. Possibly "painful and mind numbingly complex" might be closer.

It's been a year or so since I last tried to use it, so possibly my
experience is outdated, but I found it had too many options and the
defaults weren't useful (wrong scaling, wrong cropping, wrong sound
options, and having to understand what the codec and container options
actually meant). It's probably great for users who want fine control
over the process, but I just wanted something that worked.

I've found that thoggen works well, but only outputs to Ogg Theora
and has a very limited set of options (basically, resolution and
quality - which were the only ones I'm actually interested in).

Just installed dvdbackup however to see how well that works.
