As others have said, before going any further with this, I would be
making sure tat there is absolutely no way that the requirements
can't be satisfied by a small number of servers in a redundant
configuration.

Any redundant system needs to be as simple as it possibly can be,
which may even mean not making it at all redundant in any layer
below software. That may not be applicable in this situation but
there are on the face of it so many places where the redundancy
could be achieved simply, before we get to the idea of spreading it
over every single client node.
