Hi Everyone,

I just wonder if I can ask you to take a look at this petition with a
view to signing it if you are in agreement? Also, please forward it on
to like-minded folk who might be interested.

It's aimed at discouraging Lord Mandelson from pushing through flaky law
in response to the issue of file sharing, and run by the same folks who
took up Alan Turing's case, if I recall correctly.

The petition's sponsors are not advocating illegal file sharing in any
way, but rather opposing shoddy, knee-jerk laws that will have the
potential to impact us all if they are rushed through.

A good illustration of this would be the live shows I download which the
artists consent to being shared freely on the web; I personally cannot
see ISPs grasping the fact that not all bittorrent downloads are
pirated movies or albums, or indeed having any appeals process (costly
to them in terms of resourcing) for those wrongly accused and summarily
cut off.

Sorry to get all political on a Friday afternoon!

Regards,

Sean
