I don't think you need to do the RHCT first but the RHCE course is well
worth the money and preps you for the exam. I just got the RHCE study
book by Michael Jang
(http://www.amazon.co.uk/Certified-Engineer-Linux-Study-Certification/dp/0072264543/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1253290934&sr=1-1)
and studied hard for a month prior to the course.

It is a hard, all practical exam, but it is worth doing.
