This is no help whatsoever, but I suffered a spookily similar experience
with my father-in-law's mobo yesterday. Been okay for several boots,
then won't post (and no error codes) although the cpu fan will spin up
under power. It's currently waiting to go back to eBuyer.

So, you're no further forward, but you're not alone either it seems.
