If you are using update manager, then it depends.
6.06 will NOT update to 6.10 automatically.
This is because 6.06 is an LTS release,(LTS = Long Term Support).

You can persuade the update manager to update you from 6.06 to 6.10.
It is strongly recommended that you do not use apt-get for upgrading
between versions. Use the update manager.
Read: <https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UpgradeNotes>
Or for 6.06 to 6.10 specifically read:

Technically you shouldn't need to, its supposed to be for development
purposes only. Yet its still in strategic places in the system.

A quick list can be found in the FAQ:
<http://www.ubuntu.com/support/faq?action=show&redirect=FAQ#head-3df1e0e29bc1a807664ce156fb9fe6f09c35bfdd>
6.06 = Dapper Drake
6.10 = Edgy Eft
7.04 = Feisty Fawn
