zim looks to be pretty simple to use, I installed it some time ago
but haven't got around to using it yet as I forget I have it
available at the times when I ought to be documenting stuff.

I used to have a notebook but as Victor says they aren't indexable -
well not easily - nor readable days, weeks, months later.
