164MB for the debian-40r1-i386-netinst.iso
7MB for the first apt-get update during install
487MB to get 676 packages for the install of desktop/standard system
<reboot>
16MB post-install updates
185MB to get KDE
================
859MB TOTAL

For comparison

695MB for the kubuntu-7.04-alternate-i386.iso
7MB for the first apt-get update during install
<reboot>
216MB post-install updates
=================
918MB TOTAL

Of course if you already have a debian netinst CD and a Kubuntu
alternate CD then they are:

695MB for Debian
223MB For Kubuntu

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
Al.
