I couldn't give you a recommendation, but there's a company called
Cancom, who I visited when I was wondering about getting one. They do
quite a bit of refurb gear too, plus the prices on the new models were
pretty good.
If his daughter's off to Uni, bear in mind that you can get an
educational discount directly from Apple - there's a link somewhere on
the Apple Store web site. Might be worth seeing if it makes a
difference.
