Two bags of the fixed-1GB players [1] arrived
today. :-)

I've just played with one of them, and compared it
with my Yamaha YMF724 sound card. I've not used
the supplied headphones, but a proper pair -
Sennheiser HD580.

The sound is quite good, although the bass is a
little light - I probably wouldn't have noticed it
without the direct comparison. There's several
equaliser settings, which I haven't played with.

The main display shows track name, number, and
total tracks, together with battery and volume.
There's a menu system, one entry allowing you to
view the directory listing; I haven't tried sub-
dirs, but it looks like they might be supported.

There's only a few buttons - play/stop, volume up,
volume down, key lock, and a rocker/button. The
latter selects tracks, enters the menu, and
selects menu entries. The fact that the label on
the key lock is the wrong way round had me for a
little while...

There's a plastic cover over the usb plug; the
player's too large to fit alongside another usb
plug. Once connected, it's just a standard usb-
storage device, with a FAT32 file system.

Nick.
